Giveaway #1 — I’m all about that book

So it’s no big secret that I LURVE me some books. I think I have about 400 unread books in the house. And this in no way stops me from buying more. Every once in a while I will purge some of my books and give them away. And that, my fellow book addicts, is what this giveaway is all about.

In the comments I want you to tell me what your last “Holy shit that was AMAZING” read was and why. I will pick one lucky reader and mail them a book of my choice from my personal library. I will also include in the book why I loved it and why I think you’ll love it.

This little giveaway is open worldwide. I’ll be choosing the winner on January 28th.

The last book i finished, closed and sat there in awe was “The Girl Who Drank The Moon” by Kelly Barnhill. I was wrapped up in this novel because it took me to a safe place somewhere in the back of my mind where i felt I already read it and it was an old friend waiting for me. It felt nostalgic to me and that is such a warm comforting feeling. The writing and story were both beautiful and i will definitely be reading more from this author!!

I am very much into fantasy and I read (and re-read) quite a bit. Therefore, trying to find the last book, that I hadn’t previously read, that made me feel that good was hard. Instead I decided to name a book that I enjoyed so much that it has lingered with me for a few years. The Wayfarer Redemption by Sara Douglass was by far one of the best books I have ever read. It had a way of building up the characters in such a way that you had a hard time taking side even between the rivaling brothers. The flashback chapters were delivered so as not to disturb the flow of the story but at the same time gave the exact information you needed as you needed it. It is definitely a book I would read again if I could ever find it.

Last great book I read? Yikes. Most recently I would have to say Small Great Things by Jodi picoult. It was extremely timely considering the racial climate we are surrounded by from our downstairs neighbors and gave me an unexpected insight into not only what it is like to be a person of color in today’s society, but most surprisingly a sense of almost understanding into how the mind of a racist works and how seemingly small interactions can turn an inherently good person into a hate monger that can excuse their behavior in a way that frighteningly almost makes sense. And lastly, the most real connection was with the white woman who swore she wasn’t racist (I have black friends, i can’t be a racist et al). All around, great prismatic characters that you connected with even when you didn’t want to.

  Holy crap that sounds like a great book! I have only read one book by her and didn’t like it at all, but now I think I want to give her another try.
